The mosque of Gonabadi Dervishes called “Hoseinie” in the city of Esfahan in Iran was attacked 01:00 AM on the 18th of February 2009, by the Islamic military(Basij). Seven people was inside the mosque keeping guard, when around 200 Basiji gathered and started to climb the walls and once inside arrested the seven innocent men inside. Then emptied the place and two bulldozers and eight tractors where called to the scene for destroying the place where dervishes pray, read the Quran and repeat the name of God. This entire taking place in the middle of the night it shows a well planned action by the government.
The mosque was also a tomb of one of the great names in Sufism, The Tomb of Naser Ali. The mosque was as about 2000 square meters and a known artifact in Iran and a cultural heritage for the Iranian people.
Different representatives of the city such as electricity and water administration, military administration and state government administration was present at the scene of destruction witch again points out that it was a planned mission from the government.
Earlier attempts have been made for destruction of the mosque, the government has been trying to bring this building down for the past, they all failed because of the people protecting the building and lying down in front of the bulldozers, but the sheikh of the mosque was send away without the option of return. The threat has been there for the past years but due to the popularity of the mosque among the people it has been saved from the violence. This time the attack came in surprise some time after midnight where the citizens was sleeping in there home, not aware of the horrible truth taking place.
Destruction of mosques by the government in Iran for the past years is nothing new, especially the gathering place of the Nematollah Gonabadi order “Hoseinie” or sometimes also called “Tekye”. Same violence is taking place in all the gathering places of Sufi Muslims in Iran, in some cities the mosques are already destroyed and made to a parking space, in some others the attack has come with bombs and Molotov-cocktails, the threat against the praying place of all minority religions and even the praying place of Muslims is constantly under the threat of the ruling government in Iran.
